Math Foil Questions!?

Can anyone help me with doing Foil! I am very confused and I have no idea how to do it!

Here are some of the problems that I got!

1. (x-2)(x-3)

2. (x-6)(x+2)

3. (2x+1)(x+2)

4. (3x-2)(x+5)

5. (2x+1)(2x+1)

I don’t understand this First, Outer, Inner, Last! Please help me! I will surely appreciate it! Thanks! ^_^

foil is when you multiply Firsts, Outers, Inners, Lasts

like for the first one:

(x-2)(x-3) there are 4 parts to this:

FIRST’s (X, X)

OUTER’s ( X, -3)

INNER’S ( -2 , x )

LAST’s (-2, -3)

you need to multiply those:

x^2 – 3x – 2x + 6 — combine like terms:

x^2 – 5x + 6 <-- final answer. 2. (x-6)(x+2) x^2 - 6x + 2x - 12 -- combine like terms: x^2 - 4x - 12 <-- final answer. 3. (2x+1)(x+2) 2x^2 + 1x + 4x + 2 -- combine like terms: 2x^2 + 5x + 2 <-- final answer. 4. (3x-2)(x+5) 3x^2 - 2x + 15x - 10 -- combine like terms: 3x^2 + 13x + 10 <-- final answer. 5. (2x+1)(2x+1) 4x^2 + 2x + 2x + 1 -- combine like terms: 4x^2 + 4x + 1 <-- final answer. if you need more help, i found a site for you:

Foil means multiply the first times the first, inner times inner, outer times outer, last times last

so for (x-2) (x-3)

you multiply x * x + (-2 * x) + (x * -3) + (-2 * -3) = x^2 -5x +6

ok the first one you have to start by taking the first term of both expressinos which are x and you get x squared. then the same x times the 3. then 2 times the other xand lastly the negative 2 and negative and simplify and u get x squared minus negative 5x plus 6. Hope this helps try it with the rest!!

(2x+1)(x+2)

2x times x = 2x^2

2x times 2 = 4x

1 times x = x

1 times 2 = 2
