Is it possible to get government assistance?

I am just wondering….I work F/T right now making $14/hr…..I have been at this job 12 years. I want to go back to school. I am a single mother. Can I quit my job, and get government assistance to help with living expenses. What are the requirements to be eligible……I know right now I can’t get anything b/c I make too much money, but I was thinking if i quit and then went back to work I would probably start back at about $8.00 and then I thought I might be able to get help.

Single mom of how many kids? Decide what you want to major in or continue. Try applying for Financial aid it is based on income for the tax return and is good for a year. Well Fall Spring and Summer semesters. You may also check with your company to see if they offer tuition assistance. Some do and if you have been there 12 yrs. chances are they will not want to lose you and may have something in place already or consider putting something in place. Also check with your state Texas has collegefortexans.com which tells who can get free tuition. If you have to don’t quit your job just take a leave of absence and lower you income tax then file for the FASFA it is all based on income and the Pell Grant is free it may only cover books or classes and not both but if you have dependent children at home chances are you will get more money. It is best to apply as soon as you file your tax return so that there is more money available when they process your paper work.

Good Luck Hope this helped

You need to apply for federal fin aid at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. The grant is based on income and usually people qualify for loans no matter their income. I would be very leery about quitting a good job and going in blindly (meaning quitting without knowing exactly how much you would qualify for fin aid). And no one here will be able to tell you that. Only the fin aid office of the school after you have submitted your fafsa will be able to tell you.

I’m attaching a good publication with the types of fin aid, and the amounts, minimum and maximums. You might consider going just part time (school) for one semester, before you quit your job, to see what your fin aid situation is like. (just remember if you go half time to school, you would qualify for 2 times that amount if you attended full time.

Good Luck!

My sis got full tuition. She is married. Hubby makes $35,000 and she made $30, 000 at the time she applied. they have 2 kids. Don’t quit ur job yet without talking to a financial aid counselor at college first! they will aggressively seek funds for you at no charge.

bypass to the U. S. embassy and clarify your concern. they are in a position to furnish you a airplane fee tag domicile once you sign a repayment settlement. on an identical time, they are going to annotate your passport making it impossible to shuttle lower back until you pay off the government
