not necessarily free, you have to do things to get it, and sometimes there are benchmarks and checkpoints, but you don’t have to pay them back.

A scholarship is free money to be used for college tuition that does not need to be repaid. Never pay money to be considered for a scholarship nor pay to search for scholarships because there are many free resources out there. However, it comes with conditions in either having a certain college major, need based (financial), academic (grades), travel (study abroad), activity based ( school club or organizational membership), or athletic (sports). Most require you completing an application to be considered. The best times to start looking for scholarship money is either in your junior year of high school, the summer before your senior year of high school, or the fall semester of your senior year because of scholarship deadlines happening year round. I will list some free resources to locate scholarship money.

First, current high school seniors can locate a list of local scholarships at their high school guidance office. Sometimes they will list some of the state grant programs.

Second, the local public library has a book listing scholarships with some of them not located on the web.

Third, the college’s financial aid office and website sometimes lists scholarships that a student could apply for consideration. Also, some college majors list scholarships on their webiste.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. Most offer a detailed initial membership survey form. A good number are national scholarships though, but a few include local scholarships, too.

Good luck!

Scholarships are free money. The only thing you will ever have to pay is money from loans.

They are free, but usually come with stipulations such as maintaing good grades, or having a minimum number of hours in school, or requiring that you get a degree in a certain field. You can also have more than one scholarship…or a scholarship and financial aid.

scholarships are usually “small” amounts of money that you don’t have to pay back. However if you get it from an organization then they want to be proud of you so make them proud.
