Is it possible to continue to receive child support until child has completed undergrad?

I just graduated from high school and I am already 18. Are my child support days over or does my father continue to pay while I’m in college?

NO, child support is no longer required once a child reaches the age of 18

COPIED FROM:

Child support generally continues until the child reaches 18 years, graduates from high school, is emancipated (no longer lives with either parent),

or, in some cases, for an extended period such as college attendance.

The amount and continuation of support may be changed by the court upon application of either party depending on a proved change of circumstance of the parents or child.

And I like the idea of asking your dad for help that another answerer mentioned.

I think it depends on the law of the state where you live and what was agreed upon in the divorce between your parents about the child support. Your dad could continue to pay child support to help you out unless it is a financial burden for him. Maybe try talking to him and see if you can work something out.

That will depend on the state you live in and the agreement signed by your parents when child support first started. You will need to ask your folks what the case may be.

I would say that from a moral perspective, he should continue to help, as a matter of fact, in my opinion, if you are doing the things you should…studying, doing you best and staying out of trouble…he should always help you to some degree…now financially, I would say all states may be a little different, you can contact the attorney general’s office ( you can find them on line and get a local number). They will give you a specific answer, also of course your mother could have asked for this and may have done so, so check with her….if not maybe she can petition for it now…good luck!!!

Depends on the laws of your state. In Illinois the father still has to help out.

You can ask him for financial assistance, but 18 is considered to be an adult here in AZ. If you have a relationship with him, kindly ask him for help.

Hell…people with live in fathers barely get college assistance from their parents if any.

That depends on the child support agreement and your local laws.
