Of course you can get a job whenever you would like. Work study is a program in which part of your income is piad to the school. Since you aren’t putting work study down you may have to pay more out of pocket or in loans.

You can always ask for work study later but you have a better chance of getting it if you apply when everyone else applies.
Some people have found that they can earn more money by working in the real job market than in work study programs. It all depends upon where you are and what you know how to do.
