Stafford loans are automattically deffered until 6 mos after your graduation or until you are not enrolled in any institution for at least mos.

Federal student loans become payable 6 months after you graduate or leave school completely. As long as you are going to school, you will not have to pay them back. When you fill out the FAFSA for the next school year, be sure to change the school code to reflect the new school and you should be good to go!

I worked for direct loans for 7 years – the other answers are correct, HOWEVER when you transfer to your new school, call your student loan servicer to request an In School Deferment. Your new school do this for you automatically, but they may not. It could hurt your credit.
