How does a divorced woman who has bad credit thanks to her x, get a loan for school?

Okay, my advise: RUN…. don’t walk to another school. You are going to one of those expensive for-profit proprietary schools that isn’t recognized by the US Department of Education. If you go to a school listed on the second link you will likely qualify for federal grants, possibly state grants, and federally backed loans. You don’t need a cosigner or to pass a credit check to get a loan there. Your eligibility on these is based on income and single moms are usually low income. You might qualify for up to $4310.00 in a federal Pell grant – you don’t have to pay back. Compare the cost of your school to another public school. You may be pleasantly surprised and realize you can go to school without having to take out any loans.
I’ve attached regarding the grants and the minimum and maximum amounts, as well as the second link to find a federally recognized school in your area.
Edit – If your school doesn’t accept federal loans, and it truly is a 2 year state school there is still something wrong. Either you still arent going to a real school, you arent getting an RN, perhaps an LVN or LPN or a certificate program at a tech school and/ or their past student loan default rate was too high, so this privledge was yanked. (In other words, too many people who took out loans there couldn’t payback thier loans after graduation). PLEASE BEWARE!!!
Your best option would be to apply for grants and scholarships. These are free sources of money that can be used to pay for tuition, and you don’t have to pay them back. You can read about them here:
