How can I send my wife back to school?
My wife and I have two children together. We are both in our early twenties. She just finished her GED and has decided she wants to futher her education by going to college or a technical school. Unfortunatly I don’t have the means ($$$) to send her to college. I make very good money but have so much debt I couldn’t dream of financing her desire to go to school. What options are out there for us to financially afford to send her to school? Will my well paying job prevent her from getting financial aid? BTW, we live in NC.

Many community colleges have programs that allow you to transfer to a four year as a junior. Since the first two years of college are basically general ed. this is a great way to finance the first two years. Look into your local JC and see if they have this program.

I listen to a radio show in the afternoon from a financial advisor. His advice to people (Children and adults alike) is to spend the year before going to college filling out scholarship applications. Make it a full time job. If you fill out apps for 1000 scholarships you are most likely going to get 20 or 30 of them. If they are $500 or $1000 a piece, voilla! school is paid for! Do some work …. and whatever you do, don’t go into more debt to go to school!

student loans are the first to look at…u don’t have to pay anything back until after she graduates. pell grants are grants that u get if u meet qulalifications. u don’t have to repay that. have her search for scholarships in her area. she needs to take her ACT or SAT so she can get into college. I have $23,000 out in student loans and I am still going to school without having to pay a dime right now. have her call a financial aid officer and they can help her out every way you can think of. they will make sure she has her tuition paid and money for her books. you guys could try out the student loan that Chase provides foe extra money if her grants, scholarships and loans don’t cover. good luck

it could possibly hurt her on financial aid… however, that said… she could try to file them as ‘injured spouse’ kind of deal like on taxes, showing that your debt makes it where there isnt any money… you should check into it though, i dont know how much you consider a well paying job to pay, but with a family of 4 you might still make low enough to qualify for grants and/or financial aid…

you could try seeing what scholarships are available in your area…there are usually some which are available for people with special circumstances. Hope this helps 🙂
