Can I get a pell grant to finish my BS?
I was working on my BS when I got laid off from a major telecommunications company (17 yrs) in Kansas. I havent been able to work for 5 years bc I am now the caregiver of my elderly parents. My dad had a stroke when he heard I got laid off. I have been living off my 401k-IRA. I still have 37k left after 5 years of being unemployed. My parents and brother get SS or SSDI.
That is all I have…. Do I have to claim my IRA on an application? So far I have taken out 12k to live off of. I also have 400$ left on students loans. PLEASE ADVISE. I need 10 classes to finish. Thanks

fill out your FASFA, put all the same info you used or would use to do your taxes and find out if you can receive pell. There are other grants you may be eligible for and don’t overlook scholarship opportunities.

Pell grants are reserved for the poorest of the poor. Since you have that nice 401k IRA, I’m not sure if you’ll get the grant. You have to report those things on the FAFSA. However, apply for federal aid anyway and see what happens.
