Attaining Your Law Degree Related to a Specialized Occupation

An online law degree is a master’s degree awarded for studies in law, typically for professionals already working in the field. Such degrees, unlike most others, are usually pre-requisites for legal positions. However, when accrediting agencies review their curricula, they don’t grant a license for practicing law independently. A license is earned by taking an exam and practiced locally.

There are many different types of law degrees, including those for Juris Doctor (JDR),

  • a doctorate degree;
  • Bachelor of Arts (BA);
  • Master of Science (M Ph.D.) in Criminal Law;
  • and Doctor of Law (DOL).

Many universities and colleges offer special master degree programs on criminal justice administration, including programs for police officers, corrections officers, paralegals, and forensic experts. Students who earn a JDR degree or higher qualify for employment in the United States Department of Justice, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Immigration Counseling, Homeland Security Management, and other law enforcement agencies. Some states also require master degree programs in criminal justice administration for certain criminal justice positions.

Two other degree programs are also available.

The first is the Juris Doctor (JDR). This is the highest degree you can get in legal study, which is required for all positions in the United States justice system, except for clerk positions in county clerk offices. A Juris Doctor degree can take two to three years to complete, depending on the school. Students will study several related topics, such as civil procedure, trial law, white collar crime, and penal law, as well as the history of the United States, Congress, and judicial law. A few programs will also allow students to focus their concentration on a specific area of the law.

The second type of program is the Forensic Doctor (FDT).

These are for forensic scientists, or scientists who specialize in various areas of the law. A FDT student will study various topics in forensics, including anthropology, crime scene investigation, DNA analysis, correctional facilities, medical forensic studies, pathology, and psychology. An associate’s degree in a Forensic Science program may take up to three years to complete.

One of the top fields for law degrees is criminal justice, with the most recent growing demand being for a criminal justice degree. There is an increasing need for attorneys and other legal professionals in the field of criminal law because of the increase in crimes of a violent nature, especially since the onset of the global recession. Criminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and law enforcement officials must be able to adapt to changing trends and technology. As more people are earning lower wages because of the global crisis, earning a criminal justice degree makes it possible for aspiring lawyers and law graduates to achieve their financial goals.

If you’re thinking about going into medicine, there are two options.

You can earn your bachelor’s degree and then get a master’s degree in the same field, or you can earn your online law degree through one of the many online institutions that offer legal education. Most programs allow students to complete their coursework at their own pace, and many of them offer a program of study that allows students to take the classes at times when it’s convenient for them. Online schools offer full online clinical experience as well. For law students, online programs allow them to complete their degree in a condensed period of time. This means that the same material can be studied over several semesters rather than all at once.

Not everyone wants to practice law, so lawyers often concentrate on other endeavors. Still, the United States needs lawyers, and there is a huge need for lawyers in the United States, particularly in large cities. In large cities, lawyers conduct a wide variety of activities, from defending clients and collecting money for charities to serving as traffic wardens and helping to police. While a few decades ago, lawyers held the highest position in society, today lawyers hold a much lower status. Many older people have retired from practicing law, so new lawyers are constantly being put onto the market to replace the retiring ones.

  • The United States has many different law topics to choose from, so any interested student can find a degree that will allow them to specialize in an area of interest.
  • While the career options may seem limited, this is not always the case.
  • Those who enjoy a wide variety of interests are likely to find a specialty in a related field.

This can help to give one the chance to have a wider ranging of job experiences and to increase their earning potentials. If you have a passion for something outside the traditional work of lawyers or are just interested in expanding your knowledge of legal practices, it could be time to consider pursuing a law degree.
