Some of these are pretty obscure, but here they are …

Canonical Erection – The rite by which the house of a religious order is sanctified and officially recognized by the Catholic Church.

Cockmaster – One who rears game-cocks.

Dick test – A test to determine susceptibility to scarlet fever.

Fagottist – A performer on the bassoon; bassoonist.

Futtock – One of the curved timbers scarfed together to form the lower part of the compound rib of a ship.

Ulva – A seaweed of the genus Ulva, which includes sea lettuce, U. lactuca

Vagile – Having the ability to disperse or be dispersed in a given environment, as in “vagility.”

Phagomania – Rarely used term for a morbid desire to eat.

Gay Deceiver – Bust pads, usually of foam rubber, inserted into a bra to give a fuller appearance.

I’ve always found “culminate” to feel dirty — and in some cases, it can be, but it is an otherwise clean word.

On a side note, the cable provider for Rhode Island is Cox Communications, and their slogan used to be “Cox — Get what you’ve been missing.” C’mon now…

Here’s a couple:

1. “tutu” (ballerina skirt) – but could be misinterpreted for a child’s BM

2. “pecker” (someone who pecks) – could be misinterpreted for a male body part.

3. “condiment” (catsup, mustard) – could be misinterpreted as a prophylactic or condom

4. “prophylactic” (preventing the spread or occurrence of disease or infection) — may be confused solely as a condom, while it actually can be used to describe any health safeguard.

5. “Shih tzu” (breed of dog) — could be mistaken for a curse word.

comeuppance – deserved reward or just deserts, usually unpleasant

A friend of mine mistakenly pronounced it “come-you-pants” in the middle of class, much to the general amusement of everyone in earshot.

Come to think of it….

earshot – the range or distance within which a sound, voice, etc., can be heard.

cecum (pronounced sea come) = part of the large intesting -that is fairly icky already.
