What is the definition of the word Pontotoc? Urgent need to know!!!?
I am doing a report on the county named “Pontotoc” in Mississippi. None of the sites tell the name’s meaning. I need to know! Help!

It seems to be a Chickasaw word meaning “cattails growing on the prairie”.

Another site suggests that this got to be the name of the county because an important local elder or chief had that name.
Edit: I know you are asking about a county in Mississippi, not Oklahoma — I’ll do another edit if I find more.
