The word is a portmanteau of
Godzilla and the suffix “saurus”
Godzilla is a made-up monster who attacked Tokyo and battled other made-up critters like Mothra, Megalon, the Smog Monster. The name has been taken into usage to refer to something monstrous.
Saurus is a suffix used by anthropologists based on the Greek sauros which means “lizard.” Something with the ending saurus is a type of dinosaur.
So godzillasaurus would be a Godzilla dinosaur–which may well have been the supposed origin of the fictitious godzilla character first created in the 1954 film Gojira, produced by Toho.
