What does thi quote from Macbeth mean?

“Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires.”

I think it refers to how Macbeth does not want his desires to be king to unfold into reality. Not sure though..

It just means fame hides the truth.

A king holds a certain stature and morality to the public view. People worship kings because they are supposed to be stronger and more wise then the average man. Even though he is king he is only human. So he would not want his kingdom ( the public) or his court to ever know that he maybe had evil ways or was for example maybe a serial killer at night.
