It’s basically the theory that one person can be connected to any other human being on the planet through no more than 5 other people in between them. When you add the person to whom you’re connecting at the end, that makes six degrees of separation.
It was popular about 10 years ago to play “six degrees of separation” from Kevin Bacon, since he had appeared in so many films with well-known actors.
