What does “first” mean?

I’ve noticed a lot of people saying “First” and it has nothing to go with the topic. What the heck does that mean? Am I missing something?

i guess what they are saying is that they say first and it means they claim to be the first to see you fall or whatever. so, they are claiming the accident? hope this helps.

First is an ordinal number, meaning “number one in a series”. Second is number 2, third is number 3 and so on.

And if you already knew that and were talking about some crazy use of first, I apologize.

EDIT: And I’m not being a smartass, there are alot of people in this section that are currently trying to learn English. I assumed you might be one of them.

It’s probably people patting themselves on the back for being the first to answer a question.

The way you have explained the question, I have no idea. I have never heard the word “first” used in that fashion. Peace!

I think they are saying it as a shorter way of saying “first & foremost:” Like to say before everything else:

Sort of emphasizes what they are saying.

Huh? I’m confused as to what you’re asking. What are people saying when they say “first”? I need more details in order to provide you with an accurate definition as to what they are saying.

First to answer the question/first post.

And no it doesn’t make sense to post “first” on every topic/question.

Are they the FIRST to answer?

Are they saying, “First, ………”

I’m really not sure what you’re asking.

No clue as to what you just posted again. I’m not really sure of that one.
