This is grammatically incorrect – ‘despite the fact’ would be more correct, meaning “even though the fact shows this, it is this”. Hope this helps.

Hey,

Its a very commonly used phrase. I will try to explain it to you by an example. Suppose it rains a lot in India every year – that becomes a fact; Now suppose it does not rain at all this year – then the sentence composed would be ” India suffered a severe drought this year despite of the fact that India enjoys heavy rains yearly.
