What are some words that you can use other than said?

Anyone know a bunch of good alternatives for the word said?

Thanks!

A lot of them have to do with certain emotionsor situations, but if you flip through a book you should be able to find more.

Replied, retorted, yelled, whispered, guessed, invited, declared, declaimed, assumed, asked, questioned, grilled, told, etc.

But really I think you should know that after attending many creative writing classes long ago and adding in my editor’s work, it is often best to stick with ‘said’ as much as possible!

As appropriate in the context: asked, shouted, declared, remarked, screamed, commented, commanded, ordered,

eg: “Is that the time?” he asked.”Get off my lawn!” he screamed. “Game over.” she declared. “Your outfit looks cool, he commented. “Looks like rain”, she remarked. “Get your *** over here” he ordered. “Put that there.” she commanded. Hope this helps.
