“it” refers back to the speaker’s act of giving.
There should probably be a comma between “give” and “but”, but otherwise it’s grammatically correct.

If spoken, yes it is fine. Nothing wrong with it. As someone above suggested, though, there *should* be a comma after “give” for it to be technically gramatically correct.
