Is the comma necessary in this sentence? If so or if not, why?

Then, check the power strips mounted to the back of each transit case.

The comma is not necessary. Using after the word “then” is actually a contradiction. The word then constitutes continuation & a comma denotes a pause.

No, a comma would never follow ‘then’. In this case, it sounds like ‘then’ is being used as a conjunction, to link two thoughts together, and commas go before conjunctions. A comma would not go at the beginning of a sentence, so it is omitted completely.

No, the comma isn’t necessary, nor is it correct to put a comma there. It confuses the meaning of the sentence. You use a comma when there would be a natural pause and/or to clarify meaning.

You put the comma there the way you would put a period after numbering things to do. For instance, you would say, “1. yes you would; 2. don’t ask me why; 3. nobody seems to care anyway!”

?
without the comma, its like this:

-“i dont know why it s not working”

-“then check the power…”

but with the comma, its like your giving someone step-by-step instructions…

not really necessary, but not the biggest crime in the world.

i might leave it in if it was one is a series of instructional steps, like it sounds like it is.
