Is it correct to use “his” or “her” instead of “it” with your pet’s name?
My dog’s name is Sammy. It is always running around.
Preferred ( though not grammatical).
My dog’s name is Sammy. He is always running around.
Do your want to refer to your pet as an “it”?
Favorite Answer
A dog has a gender/sex and you only use “IT” if the gender/sex is undecided (like teacher…unless the writer would really specify that the teacher is a he/she) or if there is no gender/sex at all (as in a table). As for you, you know that your dog is a “he”, so it’s okay. And I’d rather treat my cat with a gender/sex because he really has one.
More importantly, you’ve given your pet a name (Sammy) so in that case, it is more preferable to use “his/he” or “her/she”… ^.^
Hope I helped. ^//^
If you do not know the gender, the vernacular of They would would as well.
My cats are she’s.
