Is there a word for words like muumuu and tutu?

Is there a special word to describe words like muumuu, tutu, and murmur, where the two syllables are the same?

This is a type of tautonym. Repetition of syllables is called reduplication.

No, I can’t think of such a word. I find all the words in my dictionary, but nothing after them that says anything about a word with two identical syllables.

They almost fall under the realm of music, having the repetition like that… but we don’t mean music, we just mean the words, which would take us closer to poetry, but my dictionary doesn’t mention any word uner poetry to cover these types of words, either.

I wish you the best of answers from somebody! Now I’m curious!

EDIT: Oh, thanks a lot! Reduplication, how obvious when you think of it. The other I wouldn’t have ever even guessed. A thumbs up for the better researcher!!

Isn’t it onomatopaea? Something sounding like what it describes? 🙂
