Help me with my grammar on this one: There has been lots of press on the recent crisis in the mortgage market?

I wrote this sentence for a report and it just doesn’t sound right. I’m not sure if it’s OK or there would be a better way to say or phrase it.

“There has been lots of press on the recent crisis in the mortgage market”

There has been a great deal of media coverage on the recent crisis in the mortgage market.

(Using “press” intimates that it’s been only in newspapers and magazines. “Media” is a broader term.)

I have seen much, much worse than that. However, before I saw Jampet’s answer, I had decided to say what he did – word for word. What’s that about great minds?
