Female genitalia anyone?

Why do so many people appear to be confused about the proper names for female genitalia. It seems as though a lot of them think the outside, visible part is called a vagina, where in reality it is called a vulva. The vagina is the passage from the uterus to the vulva and is tucked neatly away from view. Pubic hair, or pubes, grow on or above the vulva, not the vagina.

While we are on the subject of sex organs, the name of that organ in your mouth is properly spelled T-O-N-G-U-E, not T-O-U-N-G-E.

Thank you, for reading my full question.

Any comments?

None of that is news to me, Fred. But, I’m glad you got it off your chest. It must have been bugging you.

I do agree 100% – the large outer lips are the labia majora, the small inner lips are labia minora (overall, vulva).

However, in the interests of scholarship, the world vulva was taken from the Latin which means “womb, female genitals”. Might explain the common misinterpretation.

While I do concur totally, I am wondering – was this “question” prompted by a bad grammar/spelling day? ๐Ÿ™‚

People are often confused about subjects that they do not spend lots of time thinking about, or that are not important to them. I spend inordinate amounts of time researching things that interest me, but this subject does not. What does it matter what it is called, or that people call it the wrong thing, or even that people misspell “tongue?” And when did the tongue become a sex organ? I hope you are not a gynecologist. If so, you will eventually get your fingers bit off.

people think of destination, not what they see… Men are more interested in the enjoyment of the vagina, and they will refer to everything associated to it, with respect to it, and not the lessor focused on thing before it.

When you take a road trip from Los Angeles to New York, you dont say “i’m going to Barstow, then I will go to Los Vegas, then to Salt Lake then to …. ” you just say “I’m going to New York.” or even “the road to New York.”

It is not a word that I often need to use in my daily life, but when I do I don’t use any of those words.
