Does any one know what haagen dazs means? Is it a real word? If so, where does the word originate from?

Haagen-Dazs originated in New Jersey, and the name is entirely made up. It is designed to look Scandanavian, but Haagen-Dazs was never anywhere near Scandanavia. It’s just ordinary American ice cream.

check this site for a discussion on haagen dazs’ origin:

The ice cream company in New Jersey made up the name to make it sound more valuable, justifying it’s high price. The strategy worked!

It’s a made-up name, devised to make it sound exotic, imported, special, gourmet-ish, etc. Sounds vaguely Dutch or Swedish, doesn’t it?
