What on Earth does “whelp” mean?

I see it so much at the beginning of sentences, it seems to be used in place of “Well”. As in “Well.. I’m going.” or “Well.. I’m not sure”.

The word “heart” always means “the center” of something. Being in the belly of the whale/large fish means in the center of that aquatic animal. Being in the heart of the earth then does not refer to being buried in a tomb because that is on the surface of the dirt. Neither does it mean a grave because that would only be at least 6 feet under. Being in the heart of the earth is much deeper below the surface. Science tells us that there is a center core of the earth that is extremely hot. The Jews spoke in the Torah of Sheol. The netherworld. For the Jews in covenant with God at death they were taken to a place figuratively called “Abraham’s bosom” which the New Testament calls “Paradise”. Some believe that it was at one time the Garden of Eden. But that is not where Jesus went when he died. The New Testament, Ephesians 4:9 says that he descended to the lowest part of the earth. Which indicates that he went lower than the location of Abraham’s bosom. There is one parable Jesus spoke of that included the truth about the underworld. In Luke 16: 22- 26. Jesus went to that place of torment because he was on the cross accursed, Galatians 3:13 and crucified in the place of every sinner, John 1:29. Then after a time of being there, he was loosed from the pains or agonies of death and raised up as it says in Acts 2:24. He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things, Ephesians 4:10.

It’s like an older slang version of Well.

It can also mean a small scream.

The whelping box is where puppies hang out till they’re old enough to walk around on their own.

interjection. A remark, generally thought of as southern slang, that is derived from the word “Well” and also used in its stead in order to lead one into another sentence that may continue a paused conversation/story or be used to signify the conclusion of one. Where as pronunciation of “Well” can be drawn out, “Whelp” is strictly pronounced very quickly and with a slight rising-inflection.

a. Whelp, the barn is on fire, I lost my cell phone, and my girlfriend is cheating on me with a clown. Today’s been so-so, I s’pose.

On earth it means all of the following.

As a noun.

1. the young of the dog, or of the wolf, bear, lion, tiger, seal, etc.

2. a youth, esp. an impudent or despised one.

3. Machinery. a. any of a series of longitudinal projections or ridges on the barrel of a capstan, windlass, etc.

b. any of the teeth of a sprocket wheel.

As a verb to give birth to (young) usually animals.

Do not use this on Mars as it has a completely different meaning there and could get you killed or severely injured.

It shouldn’t be used as you’re saying because whelp is a raised place on the skin. For instance, when you get hit with a belt it will raise a place or whelp on your skin.
