Do the two “r” in “reader” pronounce the same way?

I’m learning English.

Do the two “r” in “reader” pronounce the same way?

If they are different, how does the second “r” pronounce?

Hi!

Wow. I never thought about it.

I’ve been sitting here for a few minutes, saying ‘reader’ over and over, and I don’t detect any distinct difference, other than the additional sounds produced by the letters near the Rs. The first one being ‘ree’ and the last one ‘er.’

‘Reader’ is pronounced ‘ree-der,’ with the emphasis on the first syllable. (REE-der)

A helpful site for learning the meanings and pronunciation of words in English is www.dictionary.com . It gives a written phonetic (how it sounds) pronunciation and definition. It also sometimes provides an audio link, so you can actually hear how to pronounce the word.

Best of luck in learning English!

(It’s my ‘native’ language, and I’m still confused by it!)

Standard English and American English both have a multitude of dialects and area accents.

Coming from the western USA, the two R letters have the same sound, and the word pronounces as ree-dur

Radar, relearn and return are all similar in having double R sounds with different vowels and consonants mixed in.

Th R sound is made towards the back of your mouth, and it can sound a little different if the tongue is making a different sounds towards the front of your mouth aganst the back of your teeth or your hard palate.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck 🙂

Yes, both letters are pronounced the same.

They are different. The final ‘r’ is softer and in some accents it’s not even pronounced.

They are different, but the difference is subtle. WordReference.com has an audio pronunciation feature for US and UK English. You may find it helpful.
