can anyone help me to understand this sentence?

It is like following…

The energy savings concept can also be based on the so-called guaranteed savings model, in which the ESCO takes over the entire performance and design risk. Consequently, the customer will assume the investment repayment risk.

It is about the final sentence. Does ” assume ” mean ” take”?

According to the context that I do not quote , since it is too long to be here, the ESCO will finance the investment and also own the assets during the service period.

The Chinese translation in book just take ” assume ” as ” take”. I do not feel it right. What you feel about the possibility?

Thanks.

Yes, you’re right about the assume and take business. Financial contract jargon often uses assume in that context.

As for the second part, I think you may have missed a step: ‘ESCO takes over the entire performance and design risk. Consequently, the customer will assume the investment repayment risk.’ This means it is up to ESCO to plan AND do the thing but NOT finance the thing. The financing will come from the customers apparently. It is not clear from this information who will retain ownership of the assets. The use of the word ‘customers’ instead of ‘investors’ makes me think that ESCO will retain legal ownership… but that’s just a guess.

Hope this helps.

‘Assume’ re your question would only mean that you will have to take the risk of repaying the project implementor once it is done depending on the terms you agreed upon. Therefore, assume means acceptance of the financial responsibility.
