“Baloney” is used as a comment and not to describe the food.

“You had dinner with the Pope? Baloney! You had bologna sandwiches? Double baloney!”

sometimes when authors are telling that something is fake, they spell it baloney rather than bologna

actually BALOGNA is the German word, but was strange for us to say or pronounce, so grocers marketed it as BALONEY. Just like kolbassy (how many spellings have you seen?) can be kolbassa, kielbassa, kielbassy etc.

Baloney is something that is untrue. In the USA what you call bologna, in Australia we call polony, and in New Zealand they call it fritz.
