Quick grammar question?

Can I write:

“…or was stabbed with his own weapon.” When in MS Word “his own” is underlined in green and says Reflexive pronoun use (Consider revising). It makes sense that it would underline, but it sounds right. Is it grammatical?

Yes, it is grammatically correct. MS Word often flags potential errors — usage that is not grammatically incorrect, but you may want to consider rewriting. The use of “his own” is correct if you want to emphasize that the weapon was his, and not someone else’s.

No, it is okay to use it that way. It was underlined because it might be considered repetitive in a way because the own doesn’t have to be there but it kind of evokes a different emotion when you say his own. I think that it is okay.

It’s telling you to take out own since you are using his. They are both grammatically correct just what I told you is a little better, per MS word.

I think it’s difficult to say because what you have shown us is a sentence fragment.

I use MS Word’s grammar check as a guide, but I often ignore it.

you should phrase it like this

: HE was stabbed with his own weapon

the reflexive part is HE – referring to himself ( his own )
