It would take about two years for the start of a nursing degree. One more year of work related or volunteer work at a hospital or nursing home. Then two more years to get a Bachelor degree to become an RN (Registered Nurse).

Besides this you could also check into becoming a PA, (Physician’s Assistant). A PA is like a doctor, (MD), without the stress and pressure of long hours and short patient reviews. A PA works under the supervision of a doctor or group of doctors and can write prescriptions just like an RN.

I believe this would take at least the same amount of schooling as a nursing career. It may take more.

I would suggest you go to your local community college and take a career placement test. This way you could narrow down what you would be good at and what you want to do in a career. Then decide, with the help of a councilor, what type of schooling you would need to take and how long!

First, I think you need to sit down with yourself and decide what you really want to do as a career. You don’t want to get a degree in something you aren’t interested in or don’t care about.

If you don’t know what you want to do…I would drop the 75 bucks on the STRONG personality test. I did it…I have my degree and taught high school math for three years. I hated it most of the time…and I wanted a change…so (from a recommendation from a friend) I took the test. It matched me to some careers I would never have thought about…and gave me direction. Now I am in a career I really like.

If you don’t want to spend a lot of time on school…you can earn your degree through an accredited online university program. They are really popular…you don’t have to sit in class…and you work at your own pace….some ones to look into are American InterContinental University, Colorado Technical University, University of Pheonix…
