Why am I having such a difficult time with community college?
I just started community college (majoring in graphic design) and I absolutely hate it! I thought it would be computer graphics but all of my classes are basically free-hand drawing and crafty things. Nothing digital as of yet. I’m having a really difficult time with it too. Everyone else seems to be doing all the assignments with ease but I can barely measure with a ruler. So all the homework assignments I’m getting are taking me HOURS to finish because I’m slow and it’s really cutting into my personal life more than it should be. It’s depressing because every second of my life there’s more I have to do and I don’t get to see my friends or have any sort of fun because I’m isolated in my room working on these complicated assignments. It’s a shame it’s too late to change my major…otherwise I probably would. Just thinking about going to class stresses me out… any advice would be appreciated.

Nothing in life worth having is easy. Do your best and stick out the semester. If you still don’t like it at the end then just switch your major and use your courses from this sememster as your electives.
As you said, you just started so you may just need to adjust to the work load.

The majority of graphic design work is done in freehand drawing, even digital art (with a Wacom tablet, etc.). So if you don’t feel cut out for that kind of work, you should change your major. It just sucks that you’ll have to stick with these classes for the semester before you can change it.
So stick it out and start thinking about what you want your new major to be. Just be glad you’re only being charged a couple thousand per semester rather than tens of thousands!

Dude I feel you I’m taking college classes during high school and it’s bothering the hell out of me. Do not do what I did and said hell with it one day I didn’t do anything. If the major isn’t making you happy, then by God change it. Yeh, and man I advise you to no procrastinate if you do that, because it dont help neither. I have faith in you, and you should too.

your not the only person who had trouble in your classes. you probably not the only person in your class who has trouble. try to create a study group (i know hard) since community colleges are commuter colleges but its still possible. Also visit your teacher during his/her office hours. tell him/her that you don’t understand the material and its taking a long time. he/she should be willing to help you. try if you can’t get a study group try to talk to someone thats good in class to explain how they figure it out the assignment.

Talk to your counselor at school, explain what you were wanting out of the school opposed to what you are getting.
Years ago I received my degree in photography, I remember having to take so many classes the were not remotely connected to my major.

thats college for you buddy you don’t hardly have anytime for anything and well you need to start getting used to it because if you want good grades and do good then you have to be dedicated even if it means not having much of a social time. However i do feel you my major is EMT/paramedic…and wow its hard i hardly have time for anything i don’t really hang out with friends much and much of the time i have i spend it studding. so stick it out and just don’t worry about not going to the movies or not being able to hang out with your friends that day, cuss you will have the rest of your life to hang out with friends.
