College Help?!?

Alright folks, so I’m a sophomore at a private college preparatory school. I play lacrosse for my school, and out of 6 classes have 3 A’s, one A-, and one B+. Also, I do community service about three or four times a year. I speak Spanish and French, and plan on taking all honor classes and extra math, science, and English electives next year. I really hope I’ll get into a good college but with all of the competition out there I’m not sure. Any tips?/Comments? THANKS!

Take the toughest classes offered at your school.

Not only should you be in clubs, you should be president of those clubs. Colleges LOVE to see leadership, because it shows true passion.

Don’t join clubs or sports solely on the basis of impressing colleges, because colleges will realize that, it’s called EC(extra-curricular) stacking, and it looks very bad.

Try not to get B’s, especially in classes that you think you will be majoring in(for example, don’t get a B in Calculus when you want to major in Applied Mathematics, it’s just common sense)

It’s good that you are taking Honors classes, try to take AP’s if they are offered.

Take the SAT, ACT, and SAT II Subject tests as many times as you can in order to get the highest scores possible.

If you have more questions, collegeboard.com and princetonreview.com are excellent sources of college help.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things. You have good grades, are involved in extracurricular activities, and are active in your community. What is your overall GPA? Keep it high, keep involved in extracurricular activities, volunteer in your community, and you should be all set.

Wow! Sounds like you’re on the right track. Keep up the good work… just bring those ‘lower’ grades up to A’s!

Keep it up and you’ll be just fine.

Just a tip you’ll find helpful next year:

For the SAT/ACT, take a prep course (your guidance counselor can probably help you find one in your town or nearby).
