You can buy the books online, but be careful. If you buy earlier editions or teacher editions, you won’t be able to sell them back at the end of the semester. Usually, you will lose money if you can’t sell the books back. Buying your books from the campus store is about a 98% chance you can sell it back. The 2% is if the your professor changes books, the book has a new edition coming out, or if the class isn’t being offered for the following semester (but then you just wait another semester to sell it back). Most colleges have an of campus book store that is privately owned by someone else and they may be selling the books for less. Brand new books will not be offered at these stores, only used ones. I’m going to reiterate the fact that while yo may save $5 or $10 by purchasing online, you may be giving up the chance to get $20 or $30 on the buy back price.

You can sometimes find earlier editions of the text on e-bay. Also look on bulletin boards at your school in case someone is selling the book. Consider sharing a textbook with someone else in your class, keeping in mind that you may both want the book at the same time. However, many college libraries keep copies of text books in their reserve section, so you may be able to take advantage of those some of the time. Good luck with it.

I buy and sell a lot on Bigwords.com. You search by UPC, title, or author and it searches through about ten of the most popular sites (half.com, amazon, etc.) and will tell you how much they would cost on each site, or how much you could sell for on each site.
