Law School looks at your overall GPA, LSAT scores, and extracurricular activities. You can major in anything. Many excellent lawyers majored in theatre, and when you stop and think of it, some lawyers are acting when they are speaking to a jury on their client’s behalf. Your interview is also very important, so practice interviewing with your family and/or friends beforehand.

Best wishes.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with John regarding your law school chances. A low GPA is less fatal when it comes to MBA admissions, especially if there’s an improving trend and your grades in quantitative courses were strong (which unfortunately, your post-bac performance doesn’t quite support: the injury is one thing, but you’re going to have to juggle a lot of obligations in business school, and “losing interest” in a class is not a good excuse for not doing well in it). However, the way you compensate for that is with high GMAT scores and very strong work experience – and it’s not clear to me whether you’ve really got the latter if you spent as much of the period following your first degree looking for work as it sounds like here. So I think you’re going to need to knock your test scores out of the park no matter what you end up doing, and even then you’d better be able to put together a heck of a personal statement.

Depends on your major, but you overall GPA carries the most weight.

If was doing admission decision and two political science majors had the same overall GPA, then I would look at their major GPA.
