Besides when you take them, what are differences between summer classes and the rest of the year?

Because they dont have as long, is the class longer, or is more independent study required? Also, how are costs typically calculated? I’ll live at home so room and board wont be an issue. I know it will vary by college but I want to know whats typical. I need to complete a certain number of classes each year, and take care of my son, and that will be easiest if I can take one or two of those classes in the summer.

Depends on the institution.

Usually the classes are longer OR there are more of them but not both.

If the course actually has less teaching time than the normal year, it won’t be the same course. It will called something like “Accelerated XXX” instead of “XXX”.

They are more condensed. Meaning that you have the same amount of work as a regular semester, but less time to do it.

Some times a class that would have been twicea week for an hour and fifteen, will be four times a week in summer.

** The good thing is that it’s summer time, and some professors lighten the load because it’s summer for them to.

I had a class where the teacher would cancle class all the time. Ended up doing very little and getting an easy A.

They are usually longer and more intense, as they have to cover the same amount of material in a summer session that normally takes place over an entire semester. I always like the faster, more intense pace of summer classes, but not everyone does. The professors seem to be a little more relaxed and easy-going during the summer classes, though.

It’s the same material in a shorter period of time, so summer courses are usually very intense, meet every day, have tests every week, and assign a lot of homework. It’s not a good idea to take more than 2 at a time, typically.

basically if you take the class during summer rather than regular season.. it means your going to have a $hit load of work to do.. meaning more homework longer class periods and most likely a test every week.. your going to have to cram a lot of info into your head and it’s all fast paced.. so if you can keep up than i suggest you do it.. but if your the type of person that needs plenty of time to due work than summer classes are not for you..
