What should I do to prepare for college? I’m a high school sophomore.?

I know that college is still a few years away, but I already know that I want to study a lot of English in high school. Right now I want to be a journalist, so I’m gonna try to be on my high school’s newspaper staff. Any other suggestions for college?

PO,

Even a journalism major will need to take bare-bones college math algebra, and they can make it a lot tougher than high school level. You should take all the high school math that’s available. It will only help you in the long run. You don’t need the distraction of a hard math class and if you already know it really well, it won’t cause you any stress. If you don’t – it could make your life hell.

Clearly take all the advanced writing classes that are available – composition, latin/greek roots and word study (not sure what it’s called other places), basically anything you can that will improve your spelling and understanding of the English language.

Also – not surprisingly, a heck of a lot of what you will be doing is going to be on the computer. You need to be as literate as possible with microsoft products – not just Word, but Powerpoint, Excel, and probably Scheduler. Take as much of this as you can fit in. I don’t even know what classes it would fall under, but if you can’t learn it at school, learn it at home. The same is true of graphics and web/internet type stuff such as Adobe Photoshop and Frontpage.

It wouldn’t hurt to know more than one language. I’d make this low priority, but keep it in mind. In spite of all the contrary press, the one to know is Spanish. It’s not going away. French is romantic and all that junk, but it’s useful in 2 countries (France and Canada.). German and Italian aren’t what I’d call widespread either. Spanish is good from our border on south throughout central and parts of South America, and Spain of course. It’s also fairly useful across large parts of Texas, California, and about anywhere else there are immigrants – which is practically all over. If you want to interview them at any point, or communicate – you’ll need to speak it. If you end up teaching – you’ll need to speak it.

Good luck

Kevin

Your grades and your classes are among the most important factors for determining your eligibility at a top college. While colleges will take many other factors into account, such as your extracurricular activities and essays, you first need to clear a certain academic hurdle.

With the classes you’ve taken so far, and the classes you plan to take, the questions you need to consider are this: are you competitive for the colleges on your list? What do other students across the country do?What are my skills?IAre there works available for me after I’ve graduated from this course?

Well, when you’re interested more in English, you may take up mass communication and yes, journalism also may do. “The fun starts in the choosing”.

GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLLESS!!!!!!!

I would suggest taking as many advanced and honor courses as possible…it saves a lot of time and money in college. Also, start looking at schools. It doesn’t hurt to have a head start. I am really serious about those classes though they make college sooooo much easier. It did for me I am going into freshman year with a semester completed, and I haven’t even started.

look into a college you want to go to, then see what are the requirements to enter. Keep your grades up usually sophomore and junior year since senior year you should get accepted, also colleges love athletics and academics programs, try and get into a team or a club, doesn’t matter if you’re not a starting player as long as you are part of the team, colleges will like it.

Start checking into lots and lots of scholarships now. Don’t be afraid to go to the nearest college campus and look into the required courses for a journalism major. If you’re thinking about a degree, think of a minor, too.

Do what’s required as best you can. More importantly, do what’s not required and a lot of it. Colleges love to see high school graduates that have a lot on their diplomas other than what their high school just told them to do (i.e. sports, clubs, etc.). Basically, get involved with your school.
