What should I do?!?!?

I just started Monday at a new school [I’m a junior]

I asked for Algebra 2 regular since it’s my weakest subjct. But..they put me in Algebra 2 CP [basically the lowest of the low]. I’m fine with it, but my mom and my teacher think I should switch to a higher level.

If I did switch, it would mess up my whole schedule, and give me an even later lunch [I can barely handle waiting as long as I do now.]

I’ve already got friends who I sit with at lunch, and I absolutely LOVE my Spanish class [whihc would be switched with math].

I really don’t want to switch..but would being in CP look bad on my college application?

Thanks.

To be honest, it’s more important that you get the appropriate level of Algebra 2 than it is worrying about your lunch. If a college were to look at your Algebra 2 as is (being CP level), they will note that it was not the intermediate or average level that you could/should take. I was in the same boat but what I did was I thought, why not take Honors Algebra 2? I took the Honors Algebra 2 and got a “C.” That equals a “B” in the intermediate and an “A” in the basic level classes. So, if you were to earn a “C” in the intermediate level, that would equal a “B” in the basic level you’re in now. Colleges look more favorably if you get an average grade in a class that is more accelerated. It shows that you’re not afraid of a challenge, and that is what college is (a big challenge to weed out the contenders from the pretenders). Good luck!

Well you are a junior and if you can do better try it out. Question though what does CP mean I am from the east coast and CP wasn’t considered bad to me. Most colleges look at grades and not really labels on most transcripts it all depends on what you major in when you attend.

take the higher course. seriously, when you apply for college, it will look so much better. you can always work something out with your lunch schedule, but you would be stuck with that CP class for a whole year AND it will show up on your transcript. i really really recommend taking the higher course

Take the higher math if you want to get higher education because that math is low for a junior so it is fun now or a better chance at college
