What should I ask in a college interview?
I’m meeting with the head of admissions of UVA today and thats where I REALLY want to go… what should I ask?

Ask them one question that shows you’ve done your homework and makes them sell UVA to you rather than the other way around. Remember, they’re in business because of students and they need to present themselves in the best light. Let them, with a well-designed question like, “I’m interested in computer science and mathematics. UVA is strong in math. What UVA computer science programs would further those interests?”
Ask them a question about some negative aspect of UVA. I don’t know enough about it to guess what that might be, but something like, “UVA has the reputation as a party school; how does the admininstration respond to that sort of charge?” or “What is it about UVA that makes it rank Xth rather than higher at evaluation sites like Princeton Review?”
And last, ask for the ‘sale.’ “Thank you for seeing me. I really hope you’ll recommend me favorably to admissions. Have a good day.” Firm handshake, eye contact.

ask if the school has job placement after graduation, if they will help you find a job. Ask how many alumni find jobs in their field, ask if the majority of professors who teach there have PhD’s, ask what kinds of extra curricular activities or clubs they offer, ask if at the end of the semester the school will buy your books back (mine did, they didn’t give you full price for them, but the extra money helped out).
