What schools would you recommend to obtain a degree in massage therapy?

I reside in the Northern VA/DC/Baltimore region. Are there any fantastic schools out here that will prepare me for the competitive world of massage therapy?

I don’t have a clue what the first poster was talking about, but you might try the Northern Virginia School of Massage Therapy in Falls Church. After completing their courses, which take about 6 months, you take the national exam. They teach all types of massage therapy. www.nvschoolofmassage.com.

Another one that I just thought about is the Potomac Massage Training Institute in Washington, DC.

Good luck.

I am not a massage therapist, but I have employed massage therapists. One of the previous posters said that ‘LMT’s eat their young’-and it’s very true. You need a solid business plan, and if you can get into a chiropractor’s office it would be great. Even if you rent some space (usually pretty cheap), you will have a built-in clientele. The hardest part will be finding the clients, so your marketing has to be stong as well. Concerning salary: Don’t look up the salaries; most LMT’s (and chiropractors) work in more than one place. Thus, making X amount of dollars in two different job settings. The numbers will always be skewed. As opposed to a PT, who more traditionally works in a single-office or hospital setting. The more people you find who need and desire your service, the more money you will make. My best advice: Do an internship with a chiropractor, and when you graduate, get your license as soon as possible and hit the ground running – don’t wait around like most students who end up waiting tables. Best of luck to you.

Hi,

If you can spare a minute and think you are inclined to be service-minded this is a very good vocation. You should be having a minimum of Xth Std or Senior Secondary Pass Certificate or the 15 years Certificate in Secondary School Education. As I am a Consultant – Distance learning Courses I am putting this before you. You should approach me with the minimum eligibility certificate should entitle you to join the Diploma in Yoga and Massage Therapy Certificate course which is of two years duration. For the degree you should have a minimum of XII Std or Higher Secondary or the 17 years certificate in Higher Secondary Education issued by a Board or University. You can take up Distance Learning mode / Correspondence courses for the above said courses. This will include Home Assignments every two months once, Finally you will have a exhaustive dissertation and project report that you will have to submit to be granted a diploma or degree in the same field you have chosen. If I have not cleared your doubts please write to me on my email id:[email protected]

There are several good schools in your area. But your best bet is to check out several and make sure you schedule appointments and actually visit. Talk to students and faculty and make sure the school feels right to you. It is amazing how different schools can be. You can search by zip code at the site below.
