It really doesn’t matter the major as long as they take the required basic sciences for acceptance into medical school. OB/GYN residency is a 4-year program after medical school. Although probably most pre-medical students have a major in a field of the basic sciences, there is no one particular college major specifically geared for a future OB/GYN. One could major in basketweaving and still go into OB/GYN.

I’m a physician.

It’s going to vary – there is no requirement for which major an OB/GYN needs as long as requirements are met for medical school. I am a coordinator for an ortho residency program and the guys in this program have majors that are pretty much across the board (although they are all science-related majors).

your plan to become an ob/gyn has no bearing on the major you choose in college. you can major in whatever you want as long as you get the prereqs for med school covered. that is why premeds are generally bio majors, they fulfill the prereqs and get a major. you can really take any major you are interested in but the sciences will help you for the mcats and fulfill the prereqs. if your avatar is true to your gender and ethnicity, you should do just fine with any major you choose so long as you knock out the A’s as best you can. good luck

Most are biology majors. Again, you don’;t have to major in biology, you’ll just have to finish the premed requirements. I recommend to major in something you like.
