The difference between one CSU and another is minor at best. The same holds true for one UC to another. As you well know, UC schools are a step up from Cal States. So, if you actualy have the grades and the test scores to get into the UC program, then go for it.

But, that said, there is more to consider.

I responded to a student that was trying to decide which UC had the better program, UCDavis or UCSB. This is what I wrote in response. Mine was chosen as the best answer, so I thought I might include it below.

It would make no difference to anyone who would be interviewing you which school of the two you attended.. They would put most schools in the same camp. For every person who would say Davis, there is probably a person that would say SB.

What you should consider when looking at two schools of similar reputation is the ancillary items related to the college or university.

For example: SB is literally on the beach and is located in argueably the most beautiful part of the west coast. That is why Santa Barbara, as a town, is called the queen of the coast.

Davis is close to Sacramento, with good availability of political opportunites nearby. Davis is closer to skiing, about 1 to 2 hours to Bear Valley/Mt Reba.

Also, what do you want the weather to be like? Remember, you are going to be calling this home for the next 4 years, maybe more. SB is warm and sunny and well, beachlike. Davis has 4 seasons or at least 3 1/2.

Lastly, where do you live now? If you live in Sacto and you want to stay close because you love your family so much, or whatever, then Davis is perfect. However, if you want to get away from the area perhaps SB is better. This obvious works in reverse as well.

Truly, there is not enough of a difference between the two programs to merit one over the other.

I wrestled with the same question back when I was choosing a college. My heart wanted the one that some, not all, would have considered to be slightly less impressive. My head said to pick the very best. Truth be know, there wasn’t really enough of a difference between the two to have used academics alone as a deciding factor. In hind sight, I know, for sure, that I made the wrong choice. I chose based on perceived reputation.

It’s like arguing over who makes a better bottle of water. Or which cell phone provider is best. They all have issues and they are all just fine.

Two years after you graduate no one will care what school, of the two, you attended. You are not talking about Stanford and Cal State Bakersfield. These two UC’s are too similar with academics. Look at the rest of the big picture.

PS: I am a teacher and could live anywhere…I live in SB

Best wishes and follow your heart on this one.

Do you live in California? If so, make an appointment to talk to your guidance counselor about your options. They can tell you exactly where you stand for UC and CSU admissions. If you live outside California, your GPA might not be high enough for UC, but you could probably get into some of the CSU campuses. Keep in mind that CA college budgets have been slashed, which means they won’t be able to admit as many people. And out of state students are generally held to a higher standard and a lower priority for admissions. FYI – there is no affirmative action in CA, so your ethnicity will have no bearing on admissions.

Cal Poly Pomona has a major, Kinesiology B.S. with Sports Medicine Option. Sounds right up your alley.

You can go to assist.org to find all the majors at all the public California Schools. If you are not ready for admission, you can also use that site to determine what classes you should be taking at a Community College so that all will transfer when you have your requirements. You can click on the school link and read about the school and about the specific program.

Actually I went back again: there must be 50 programs at at least 9 State Colleges. (None at UCs.) For another example: “Kinesiology B.S. Concentration in Exercise Science, Therapeutic Exercise & Rehab” at Sac State. When you search, use the spelling without the second “i”.

I have no idea whether one program is “better” than another. I doubt there is much difference. You probably can decide based on where you want to go to school. Good luck.

To be good in that field, you must consciously and unconsciously believe in god, and never use your ability to take advantage of someone. You must also rate over 200 to get good readings on patients. Good luck.

You should read Power Vs Force, by Hawkins.

That’s not an actual field of study. As you can probably now tell from the reply above. It’s a psuedoscience, like reflexology or accupuncture. It doesn’t actually work. If you want to help people, become a nurse.
