What GPA do we need to get into medical school?when to start studying for MCAT?
Favorite Answer
Depending on when you want to enter med school depends on when to take the MCAT. If you are looking to enter next fall, you should be scheduling your test right now – you should plan on enough time in case something happens where you need to cancel or if you don’t do well (so you can have enough time to re-take it).
I highly recommend getting some research experience and try to get published if possible.
If your GPA is high already, look into the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship – they award a lot of money to grad schools. Your university needs someone to nominate you though, and they should have a contact person at your uni. One thing about the JKC scholarship – you need to be involved in something outside of academia. Grad schools, no matter what kind, don’t want someone who is a bookworm so to speak. They want you to have some sort of outside hobby – a way to relieve stress from grad studies.
Good luck.
The best time to take the MCAT is October of your Junior year so that your scores will be available when you begin applying to medical schools.
