Are you intent on staying in NY? I don’t know about other colleges but the school I just graduated from just opened up a Chinese Institute. If you are an undergraduate there you could learn Chinese from visiting Chinese professors and could take a trip to China for a while. It’s Bryant University in Smithfield, RI.
