If you double major, you only earn one degree, but it means that you have fulfilled the requirements for two majors. This was taken from the academic catalog at the university that I work at:

Double Major: Multiple majors falling under one degree will normally be approved for students who show promise of success in both, provided there is sufficient divergence between the majors. No one course may be used to satisfy more than one major requirement.

Best wishes to you!

It means you have two majors (concentration of studies) in college.

For example: You can concentrate your study (major) in ACCOUNTING, and at the same time you also concentrate your study in ECONOMICS.

In order to do this in a university, you need to take more classes to fulfill both major requirements in order to get a Double Major degree.

In the above example, you would take a lot of accounting classes, and at the same time take a lot of economics classes. After you finished all classes with passing grades, your Double Major degree would be granted.

It means are majoring in two subjects. It’s more work than just majoring in one subject.
