There are more than a few of these tests available to you. You took one such when you joined the military, the ASVAB. They’re called a Vocational Interest Inventory.

You can find some online but it’s really best to have a professional interpret the results for you. Your local government employment offices can provide these as can any college career department. Usually, these are free.

You could also visit with a career counselor/education consultant in private practice and get a bit more personal attention – though it will cost you.

As for deciding which major; pick the 4-year college you want to attend and apply as undeclared. See exactly what they accept in the way of your associates degree courses. Remember that professional positions in psychology will require at least a master’s and preferably a doctorate degree. A major in business with a minor in psychology might serve you better unless you aspire to become a psychologist.

Add: RReddy: I think he’s asking for the help of a counselor or advisor – not whether he should become a counselor or advisor. ☺

There are lots of different tests to help give you direction in your career. Some are ok and some are a joke. Chances are, there will be a guidance program on campus that will give you the test for free.

However, I would strongly recommend that you choose business over psychology. I have a bachelors in psych and it isn’t worth the paper it is written on. No one honestly gives a flip about a psych degree. All it is good for is helping you get into a graduate program for psych. And realize that a bachelors psych degree literally qualifies you to do NOTHING. You can’t even run a AA meeting.

Meanwhile, everyone appreciates and values a business education. And you have a lot more flexibility with a business degree, because it can apply to nearly every field. The business degree is DEFINATELY the smart way to go.
