FIDM doesn’t have a great rep, no. It’s very popular, and it attracts a lot of students, but I’m not feeling the love.

Still, visit it, see how you feel. But I don’t generally recommend that talented students go to that school, no.

While in LA, if you’re looking into fashion design, also look at Otis. Otis is probably one of the top fashion design schools on the west coast, and it’s right in Los Angeles.

Hi!

I’m not quite sure what you’ve read on Yahoo about FIDM, but I can tell you that I have a friend who went to school there and she really enjoyed it.

My friend had nothing but great things to say about FIDM, but one of the things she liked was the fact that FIDM is on top of their game in terms of education, real-life experience and helping to place grads in awesome jobs.

In terms of price, FIDM is reasonably priced compared to other fashion colleges. The advisors here are great in helping students find financial assistance through grants, loans or even scholarships offered by the college.

I would suggest that when you come to visit FIDM, that you form your own opinion based on what you observe and what other people tell you about the college. I think you’ll find it’s a great place to go to school for fashion or entertainment.

If you would like some more information on FIDM, I would check out the school’s web site at: www.fidm.com.

Hope this helps 🙂

One of the most over-rated fashion design school is FIDM which offers so-called scholarships amounting to some $36,000 in student debt. It takes the position that it offers a “prestigious” degree which will open the doors to success in the fashion and marketing fields. Unfortunately, this “prestigious” degree does not waive various job interview requirements which entail evaluation of one’s portfolio, grade point average and passage of a written or oral examination. So, in the long term, you might have saved the $36,000 student debt to FIDM and instead, used it as a downpayment on a condo or house.

A better alternative is to sign up for the Design/Fashion course at Los Angeles Trade Tech which offers exactly the same instruction for a total course fee of around $970! And Trade Tech is a state-certified fully accredited trade college with all the bells and whistles associated with a Class A education.

Good luck!
