Those professions are quite a way down the road. But they require college. So you should take the courses that will prepare you to get in and succeed at college. High schools usually offer a “College Preparatory” sequence of courses. That’s what you should take.

Obviously taking classes in high school isn’t enough, but there are a number of things you can do to prepare yourself.

It would bode well for you to focus in the sciences — the more science intensive your studies are, the less difficulty you will have when you’re taking anatomy and physiology, microbiology . . .

A course in nutrition, if your school offers one, as well as psychology and sociology would help you, too — while medicine has a great deal to do with knowledge of biology and disease processes, it’s just as much about being able to relate to people.

The high scool classes really don’t matter when you get to college, unless you get AP credit and get exempt from a general Ed course. I would reccomend honors or higher levels of Bology, Chemistry, and Anatomy, if it’s offered. Really get into the sciences, a pre-med degree or nursing degree has alot of science.

If you think you want to go to University, it is very important to ensure you have the courses you will need to apply to university. The way you know this is to visit univesity websites and look under “admissions” and they will tell you what you need. Usually for pre-med or nursing you will need an upper math course, biology, chemistry etc. But you really will only know after looking at university websites OR by speaking to your guidance councillor at your high school.

All the sciences are helpful. Make sure you give extra attention to Biology and Chemistry. If you have an opportunity to study college courses like Anatomy and Physiology, try to take those.

College is where you actually take your pre-med courses; but the courses I listed above are good preparation for them.

Take lots of science and math. Then you will be ready for the science and math you’ll have to take in college to get into medical school or nursing school.

You need to go to college and major in Biology or Chem. Or you can major in any degree program, and take the prerequisites for Med school. Bio1 &2 Orgainc and inorganic Chem, Physics, and Calculus. And to become a nurse you major in Nursing and take Anatomy, physiology, chem, microbiology,

all science classes you can take and basically advanced classes – you can even look into colleges that let seniors in high school start getting college credits early and take classes at the colleges
