Question is: would you trust a celebrity with any kind of degree to do your income taxes or teach your children?

I have to say I read all the responses to this question…. I am currently taking online classes from University of Phoenix. The SAME school my cousin walked the stage on with Shaq O’Neil. My online degree has the same accreditation as any other community college or on campus University.

I am in Weekly Seminars. I log into Discussion Boards 4X a week. And more then anything, I have group projects due as well. I think it’s a little harder to come together with people online but I learn the same way. Just as any student would SURF the web for answers, online students do the same thing.

When it comes to my degree, I walked across the stage just like any other on campus student. And when I got my job AT THE BIGGEST PAYROLL COMPANY NATIONWIDE as an accountant!!! My ONLINE status meant nothing to them. It was the determination put forth toward my degree that mattered, not my status. And like no other, my transcripts DON’T say ONLINE, they are like no other transcripts, they say I held a 3.98 GPA all through college.

A degree from an accredited university is effective everywhere. An online degree is better than no degree at all right? Online schools are best geared towards non- traditional students. If you are wary of online schools then you should look at your local community college or university. Chances are they have several key courses that can be taken on line and you will probably only have to show up for tests if they are not online already

I don’t think online degrees are all that effective. Sure, it’s better than having nothing, but I can’t imagine that someone would get hired when compared to someone with a true degree and everything else is the same.

There are a lot of celebrities doing them because they can get somewhat of a college education without taking time out of their busy schedules and without being mobbed each time they go to class.

Personally, I think that half of the importance of going to college is meeting and interacting with people, joining clubs and organizations and improving your social skills. Sitting in front of a computer screen won’t help that much. I haven’t heard of anyone that gives interviews out over AIM or MySpace.

Like Joscelyn said, I would go with an online class at a community college or university, but NOT one of those that is advertised on TV or on some Internet site. I am doing online classes from a college myself is why I am answering this question.
