What can I do with a degree in finance?
I’m attending The University of La Verne and getting a degree in finance. I don’t know what I should do with the degree….My original idea was to go into the mortgage/real estate business, because for the past two years I’ve been doing mortgages, but I’m not sure if I want to stay in Real Estate because of the fluxuation of the market. What are other good jobs that I could get after I get the degree in finance? I want to make a lot of money and of course I know I’m still going to have to work my way up the latter, but does anyone have any suggestions of where I can make the most money and everything else.

Students wishing to become professors might pursue a Ph.D. in Finance or a related field.
Many graduates of Finance programs go on to work in corporate finance. Corporate finance specialists help companies handle their money so that the business can grow and expand. They assist companies with mergers and acquisitions, and they help manage the company’s financial future. Other financial specialists choose to work as financial planners, who help individuals build portfolios, save for their futures, and manage their money efficiently and responsibly. Financial planners work closely with people and utilize not only their financial knowledge, but also their interpersonal skills. Money managers also handle money, but for institutions, not individuals—these jobs are competitive and well-paid, and are perfect for those graduates who have great analytical skills and intuition.
Financial specialists also choose to pursue careers in insurance or real estate. Those students pursuing doctorates usually move on to careers in teaching and research.
Graduates who wish to become involved in financial risk management can become certified by taking the Financial Risk Manager certification test. To gain more trust and build their practice, many financial planners choose to become Certified Financial Planners. Those graduates hoping to become money managers should become chartered by taking the Chartered Financial Analyst exam, which is administered by the Association for Investment Management and Research. www.aimr.com
Starting salaries for Finance specialists are generally quite high, though the number depends greatly on what sort of business you work for, how much experience you’ve had, and how talented you are. A reasonable estimate for a starting salary is around $60,000 or higher.
